Club Q Update #81 - The World Is What You Make It
This song and post is dedicated to my former Religious Studies teacher and Careers Advisor, and dear friend Arthur Fife, who introduced to me to Paul Brady’s music. Mr. Fife may be reading this (still feels weird to call you Arthur - so ‘Sir’ it is 😂) . Mr Fife showed an amazing amount of support to me (and so many others!). during my time at Castle Rushen High school. He once presented me with a merit for ‘Promoting the good name of Castle Rushen High School in a local establishment'. Translated, that means that Mr Fife had come to see the band play in the local pub that weekend.
He gave me a bootleg CD of Paul Brady and friends playing live at Vicar Street in Dublin. I love that CD. I have to say a big thanks Mr. Fife. He helped me persuade my parents to let me take a gap year to pursue music. I got a record deal at the end of that gap year. He’s another person without whom I flat out wouldn’t be doing this.
If you don’t know Paul Brady, he’s one of those songwriters that is possibly less recognized than the songs he writes. He’s another Irish musician that I absolutely adore. He started out playing more traditional Irish music, notably in the group Planxty (another cracking band to check out), and then forged a successful solo career from the 70’s to present day. Helluva writer.
I love this tune - so fun and upbeat, catchy as hell, and with brilliant lyrics. Hope you like it too!
