Club Q Update #80 - She Wouldn't Let It Go
I was on a MASSIVE Richard Thompson kick when I wrote this song. Not sure I ever got off that kick.
This was a song I wrote ‘in the style of’. I saw Richard play (and had the chance to pick his brains and spend some time with him) in the grounds of a Stately home in the northwest of England. He was so damn inspiring, and the sound he got out of his acoustic guitar was so bloody powerful. That’s when I started to embrace and work on a technique called ‘Hybrid Picking’, where you grip a pick in your right hand between thumb and forefinger, and then combine that with plucking with your remaining fingers on your right hand independently of the pick. It’s a tricky thing to get started on, but becomes indispensable once you’ve got the hang of it. Richard Thompson is the man.
I liked the cheeky character in this song. A red-blooded male who seems more concerned with having being caught, and that his partner is angry with him, rather than the fact he was in the wrong. What an arsehole.
Anyways, hope you like the song.
