Club Q Update # 17 - Here's another home demo!
Hello all, and to those of you who celebrate, Happy Easter!
I thought i’d show you all another home demo today… This one is maybe not as polished as the first one (new members, be sure to scroll down and make sure you take advantage of all the previous updates!), partly because I play all the instruments this time… so please be gentle with my keyboard skills 😂
The idea for this tune came after a few margaritas at a Mexican restaurant YEARS ago with some friends. We bumped into an Uncle of one of my mates, who is a super interesting guy. We were chatting, and he told me that this Mexican restaurant used to be… ahem *cough* a ‘Gentleman’s Club’…. called ‘Queens for Kings’, long before my time in Chicago. That name immediately stuck in my head and stayed with me as a subject to write about. It took me maybe about 6 years to get the music for it... I needed something sinister, something seedy to match the title. I also started thinking about how this neighborhood started to change and newer, fancier places started to spring up around this old club, it’s neon lights still flickering, and maybe it’s glory days long gone - but somehow still reaching out, drawing the lonely and desperate inside.
Anyways, perhaps this is another glimpse at how I write songs, and how I try to flesh them out at home, trying to get closer to the sound in my head that I wrote the song around.
Hope you enjoy it, and hope you have a great Easter!
Davy
